For hunting animals in the rain forest. Some hunters dip darts in the venom from poison arrow frogs. They put the darts into a blowgun and shoot them at their prey. When a dart strikes a monkey or a jaguar, the hunter follows the animal and waits for it to collapse and die. Rain forest hunters have many ways to remove the poison from the frogs. One way is to roast them on sticks over a hot fire. The hunters collect the poison that drips out of the frogs’ skin and rub it on their darts. One frog supplies enough poison for 50 darts.

There the similarity ends! How does a scorpion sting? With a special stinger on its tail. At the back of the scorpion’s body is a tail that arches, or curls up, over its body. Sticking out from the end of the tail is the mean-looking, poisonous stinger. When attacking, the scorpion whips its stinger forward in a millisecond! Which animals are prey for scorpions? Insects, spiders, frogs, and mice. The scorpion grabs the animal with its claws. Quickly flipping its stinger over its head, the scorpion injects a shot of poison.
