METHODS Fifty-nine M. nemestrina placentas were obtained over a 2year period from14 Caesarean section and 45 vaginal deliveries in our laboratory. Thirty-six placentas were from timed matings, with a gestation range of 115-187 days. For vaginal deliveries the mothers were anesthetized with ketamine hydrochloride administered at a dosage of 10 mg/kg of body weight immediately after giving birth to facilitate the recovery of the placenta and the examination of the infant. The gross placental morphology was recorded as soon as possible after delivery.
